Q1. Who are you? Name, age, professional background?
My name is Winniy, I’m 26 years old and I work as a case manager for a not-for-profit organisation that supports the settlement and well-being of young people of refugee background.
I’m also a content creator and I own an event planning business. On top of this, I’m currently completing a double degree in Psychological Sciences and Criminology, with aspirations to become a Clinical and/or Forensic Psychologist.
Q2. You have a huge following on Instagram & TikTok, what inspired you to start making content on social media and how has it evolved?
This kind of all happened accidentally... I started travelling in 2019 and documenting the experience. I was exposed to a lot of high-profile people and events which, I guess caught a lot of attention. In the process, I just shared a bit about myself, my friends, my family, and my love for fashion and beauty. Later that year, a modelling agency scouted me, and it all just kicked off from there.
I started as a model and later found my passion for content creation. I’ve been able to share myself with my audience in ways I could have never imagined, I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported me up to this point and the beautiful clients who continue to provide me with these amazing opportunities. I’ve had the privilege of working with some clients I would have never dreamed about, like YSL Beauty, Mecca, Bobbi Brown, Fenty Beauty, Lexus etc.
Q3. When deciding on the fashion brands or products you collaborate with what criteria do you consider before endorsing them to your followers?
I only ever work with brands that are in alignment with my values. I know sometimes an opportunity may come up, that pays well but no amount of money or exposure is worth compromising my dignity. My agents and I brainstorm frequently, and we set goals around the kind of growth we would like to see and the brands we’d like to reach.
Q4. In a world of constantly changing trends, how do you stay authentic to your style while keeping up with the latest fashion trends?
My style has always stayed the same, I love a good blazer moment or a mini skirt. I have staples in my wardrobe that I take through all seasons. I believe fashion is all about what you feel comfortable in, trends come and go but your authenticity will always prevail so just have fun with it! Investing in some solid staples is always a good starting point, a t-shirt and some jeans go hard with the right accessories. It's one thing to wear your clothes but styling them will always elevate the look!
Q5. If you could share one significant tip/advice with the young girls who follow you and for those who look up to your sense of style what would it be?
Everything isn’t always as it seems, I know seeing your favourite creators thriving online can be a push to elevate yourself in your own life, but always consume cautiously. What works for one person may not work for you. Remember, that one picture you see is one of many, people choose their best side, their best story, their best look, and their best days to share with you. This is ok, nobody is responsible for your interpretation but YOU! So, don’t compare yourself to anyone else. It's ok to be inspired but never let it drive you away from your core!
